SportsEdge Media coverage on Jan Cooper Cup 2018

Western Australia’s best developing female football talent will be showcased by SportsEdge Media when four teams compete for the inaugural Jan Cooper Cup.


The 2018 Jan Cooper Cup, will be played by four teams: Coast, South, East and West.

The tournament is named in honour of WA female football pioneer Jan Cooper and will include the best players in WA outside the AFL Women’s competition.

Eligible players were selected via an online draft to compete in the Cup, which has been designed to develop talent as well as prepare players for the WAWFL season and upcoming AFLW National 18s and 16s championships.
The Cup comprises of four rounds of double headers commencing at Subiaco Oval on Sunday, February 11. Rounds will also be played in Mandurah and Bunbury.
The four competing teams including Coast, East, South and West consist of a combination of WA State Academy players, open age, 18s, 16s, Rookie selections and players from other sports.

The first game is to take place on February 11 at Domain Stadium with games on Feb 18 at Hands Oval, Bunbury, Feb 24 at Bendigo Bank Stadium, Mandurah, and returning to Domain Stadium, Subiaco, for the final on Saturday March 10.

Community News partners with SportsEdge for comprehensive coverage of WAFL and local footy

The sense of nostalgia that comes from listening to a game of footy on the wireless is set to reach a new generation, thanks to a new partnership between online media producer SportsEdge and Community News.


For the first time, every mark, kick, tackle and goal of the 2018 WAFL season and the Women's Jan Cooper Cup will be broadcast live across Western Australia via SportsEdge's Footy Radio. 


The season proper kicks off on Friday March 30, with media stalwart Tom Tapping (pictured) and a broad range of passionate and experienced commentators including Tyson Beattie, Cam Robbins, Jimmy Williams, Matt Cecins, Ian McNeil and more leading a weekly panel focusing on the weekend's upcoming round. 

To complement the SportsEdge coverage, Community News will have dedicated pages every Tuesday and Thursday across all mastheads, and via, giving readers exclusive access to pre-game and post-match information, and further cementing the paper's reputation as the home of grassroots footy in the state. 


The partnership will also see coverage of the 2018 Sandover and club champion medals, as well a number of other sports at a local level.
